Greeting
Hello everyone, this is the first weekly diary of LemonP or me. I write weekly diary for record my life.
I will write my weekly diary in casual and using Simplified Chinese and English.
Start
I am finishing my first weekly diary in front of desk in my homestay room now.
In fact, today is the second Sunday after I arrived New Zealand(NZ). Sorry for that😂.
My father’s best friend suggested me and my father that I can try to study in New Zealand several months ago. His son ArmsF(nickname), who is already studying in New Zealand now, is one of my best friend too.
Because of my friend and my decision, I started my travel to Christchurch, New Zealand. I will enroll in CCEL(Courage of English in Christchurch) and UC(University of Canterbury) for Computer Science after I finish my English courses.
Journey to New Zealand
It is my first time to travel to English-speaking country. It is also the first foreign country I will be staying there for a long time.
I will flight to Beijing(Peking) from Wuhan first, then Auckland, and reach Christchurch finally.
After said goodbye to my family and my homeland, I started the journey to New Zealand.

I had not seen this newspaper for a long time. I often read this newspaper when I was a child. It is so sad to recognize that I won’t see my hometown stuffs for a long time in the future🥲.

It should take 10538km in distance of the flight to Auckland. Also, it was my first time to take more than 10 hours in a single flight. Certainly it is a hard trip.
I never think about the atmosphere temperature outside a plane, it is so low. By these parameters on the information, we can find that people should finish massive projects and researches to build a plane.
It’s amazing🤭, only if you experience the technology, you find the strength of the technology.

Most of the signs are formed by English and Chinese in Auckland airport. Other signs, usually the most important, add Japanese and Korean. It seems that Asian are significant parts of travellers in New Zealand.
You can also catch glimpses Māori language and introduction of local geography and culture in NZ airports and planes. Māori are the aborigines in New Zealand. The official languages in NZ are English, Māori and NZ Sign Language, but only 4% proportion of NZ population using Māori.
We can see the respect and protection to Māori culture by NZ officials.
Kia ora is a Māori-language greeting. You can say ‘hello’, or Kia ora to greet others in New Zealand.

My family and I worried that it might be insufficient time in flights transfer before, but fortunately I arrived the boarding with spare time.
I took the plane of Air NZ to Christchurch, it is stylish on surface👌.

Christchurch is nearby sea, I was informed that water is free if you use water under a certain amount for a month in Christchurch. Many other cities in NZ have a high cost on water for family usage.

I took 20 hours or so to get Christchurch from Wuhan. Most of the signs are English only there, it is understandable.

ArmsF’s mother helped me finding a rental room of a house before I live in my homestay arranged by my school. Thanks for helping!
I messaged to the landlord to meet at the pick-up place.

I arrived at my house in 9pm, and I bought some foods and necessities in the Countdown(a brand of supermarket) in Riccarton with the landlord. He is helpful.
I lived in Riccarton these days. It is good located, I can easily get the language school, supermarket, center of Christchurch and China town by walking or public transfer there.
Record of new life in NZ

Just hanging around in Riccarton.

South Garden resturant is ArmsF’s suggestion.

Many Chinese had their lunch there, most of them might be tourists.
The price of dishes are higher than China mainland, but also in good quality🤭.

Nice environment in NZ. New Zealand advocates protecting environment, so you can get fresh air and healthy foods there.
Christchurch is in South Island in NZ. According to the information on Internet, 40% part of South Island is saved for nature reserves. There are also some small reserves around my homestay.

Even in developed countries, we can’t take both conviences and nature protections, and the traffic is a example. Mostly, the streets in NZ have only one lane on both sides and a very narrow lane for bikes, which often has parked cars on it, so it’s a more dangerous for biker. NZ families usually driving in daily.

UC is nearby Riccarton, it occupies a large area. I heard that everybody can reading and studying in the campus but I didn’t been there.

Having lunch with ArmsF and his CCEL friends.

Start of my homestay life

Farewelled to the landlord, I was going to my homestay.
It was rainning. Because of the inconvenience of public transit and unfamiliarity of the ways to the homestay, I rained above one hour with my two big suitcases.
Anyway, my homestay is nice, the host is passionate. We talked a lot, he is from Columbia and is aimming for master degree of engineer and PhD. He also learnt in CCEL, and he encouraged me that it is not necessary to worry and I should study hard🫡.
A Japanese student is living next to my room.

Althought it said no pets in the homestay description, I still love these cuties😊. They are shy, but if you trying open your door above a half minute, they will fly to your room and playing everywhere.
My homestay life is satisfying, I’m looking forward to CCEL school life now.
